Fundamental Stacking Principles

• Center of Gravity Control
  • Place heavy items at the bottom and light items on top
  • Position cargo center of gravity as close to the pallet center as possible to avoid offset
• Uniform Distribution
  • Distribute cargo weight evenly across the entire pallet surface to prevent localized overloading
• Height Limitations
  • Generally do not exceed 1.5 meters (or 2/3 of the pallet width) to avoid tipping risks

Stacking Method Selection

• Block Stacking is the most common stacking method, suitable for regularly shaped boxed cargo (such as cartons and standard components). During operation, goods are arranged neatly and flat with each layer oriented consistently. Layers can be arranged in alternating patterns (such as first layer placed horizontally, second layer placed vertically) to enhance overall stability. This method offers high space utilization and facilitates inventory counting.
• Interlocked Stacking is primarily used for cylindrical or rolling cargo (such as drum containers and tires). During stacking, each layer adopts a triangular “pin-wheel” arrangement where upper layer items settle into the recesses of the lower layer items, creating a lateral locking effect. This method effectively prevents cylindrical cargo from rolling but slightly reduces stacking height and requires securing straps to ensure safety.
• Layered Cushioning is suitable for fragile items, irregularly shaped cargo, or mixed loads of different specifications. Separator boards (such as wooden planks or corrugated cardboard) are placed between each layer of goods to distribute pressure evenly and prevent damage to lower layer cargo. Special attention must be paid to center of gravity balance during stacking, with stretch wrap or containment frames used as necessary. This method is particularly suitable for precision instruments, glassware, and other specialized cargo.

Stability Enhancement Techniques

• Anti-Slip Measures
  • Utilize anti-slip mats, stretch wrap, or securing straps to secure cargo
  • Insert corrugated cardboard between layers to reduce sliding
• Edge Alignment
  • Position upper layer cargo 5-10cm inward from the lower layer (stepped stacking) to reduce tipping risk
• Special Cargo Handling
  • Liquid cargo: Place vertically in upright position after sealing to prevent tipping
  • Soft packaging: Apply tight stretch wrap after stacking

Safety Precautions

• Pallet Inspection
  • Ensure pallets are free from damage, protruding nails, or mold contamination
• Post-Stacking Testing
  • Gently push the topmost cargo layer to verify overall stability
• Equipment Coordination
  • When using forklifts/stackers, ensure forks are fully inserted into the pallet to avoid scraping cargo
