Frequently Asked Questions
What is a stacker used for?
A pallet stacker is a material handling machine used to lift, stack, and transport pallets safely and efficiently in warehouses, factories, retail spaces, and storage areas. It is designed to handle medium-duty loads, stack pallets at moderate heights, and work in narrower spaces than traditional forklifts. Stackers are ideal for inventory management, loading and unloading, and organizing pallets in compact work environments.
What does OSHA say about stacking pallets?
OSHA requires that pallets be stacked in a stable, secure, and orderly manner to prevent collapsing, falling, or tipping hazards. According to OSHA standards, stacked materials must not create dangerous conditions, workers should use proper equipment when handling pallets, and damaged pallets should be removed from use. Safe stacking height, balanced loads, and clear access aisles are also emphasized to ensure workplace safety.
Is a pallet stacker a forklift?
No, a pallet stacker is not the same as a forklift, although both handle pallets. A forklift is a heavy-duty machine designed for lifting very heavy loads to great heights, while a pallet stacker is smaller, more compact, and used for lighter to medium loads at lower to medium heights. Stackers are easier to maneuver in tight spaces and typically do not require the same certification as standard forklifts.
